Inside The Boathouse

Step inside this charming coastal cottage and experience a seamless blend of rustic elegance and modern luxury. Thoughtfully designed with handcrafted furnishings and high-end touches including local portraits by the owner, every detail has been curated to ensure a truly unforgettable stay:

• Spacious open-plan living area with a gorgeous sofa and a wood burner—the perfect place to snuggle up with a book by the fire during those cooler months.
• Handcrafted wooden dining table seating eight, ideal for intimate dinners or special occasions.
• Upstairs are two spacious bedrooms sleeping 4 guests both with ensuite bathrooms. The master bedroom has a super king bed and the ensuite includes a bath and shower. The second bedroom offers the option of either twin beds or a super king bed with a shower in the ensuite. The two bedrooms are tastefully decorated in muted tones and offer panoramic views across Lee Bay.
• Fully equipped modern kitchen, perfect for preparing fresh, locally sourced meals.

• Beach access is via the quiet village road that leads to and from the Boathouse, a 2 minute walk to Lee’s sandy beaches – perfect for sea swimming, morning strolls, or rock pooling at low tide.
• Expansive ocean views and dramatic scenery, offer a peaceful retreat from everyday life.

About The Boathouse, Devon

Steeped in history and beautifully restored, The Boathouse is more than just a luxury retreat—it’s a place where the past meets the present, creating a unique and unforgettable stay.

Originally known as Black Pit Cottage, the property took its name from the sandy stretch of beach in front of it. Years ago, coal-laden ships would dock here, unloading their cargo onto the shore, leaving behind coal-blackened sands that inspired its name.

As time passed, Lee Bay flourished as a seaside destination, and this very building became a boathouse, storing vessels that took visitors on scenic trips around the bay. To honour its rich history, the cottage was renamed The Boathouse.

Though its purpose has changed over the years, The Boathouse remains a secluded bolthole, offering guests an intimate connection to the dramatic coastline and natural beauty of North Devon. Lovingly renovated by its current owners, no detail has been overlooked, ensuring an experience where the ocean ambience invites you to sit, relax, and unwind.

Perched upon rugged cliffs overlooking the tranquil waters of Lee Bay, The Boathouse enjoys a spectacular setting in North Devon.

Just a short drive from Ilfracombe, a historic harbour town with boutique shops, art galleries, and award-winning restaurants, and in the other direction you’ll find Woolacombe, home to one of the UK’s most beautiful sandy beaches—both less than 15 minutes away.

Lee itself is a picturesque coastal haven, boasting hidden coves, dramatic coastal walks, and a warm small village atmosphere. A must-visit is the 14th-century Grampus Inn pub, a beloved spot for both visitors and locals. Here, you can savour traditional homemade food, sample locally brewed ales, and enjoy live music evenings in a cosy and welcoming setting.

• Dog-Friendly Holidays – The Boathouse welcomes well-behaved dogs, allowing one medium/large breed or two small breeds and locally there are dog-friendly walks, beaches, pubs and restaurants so your four-legged companion can come too. 
• Convenient Parking – Guests have access to off-road parking for two vehicles on site, ensuring a hassle-free stay.
• Minimum Stay Requirements – A minimum stay of 2 nights applies year-round, except from late June to early September, when bookings require a minimum 7-night stay, with check-in on Fridays only.
