Rowden Abbey
Rowden Abbey is for filling with friends and family, for fabulous weekends and holidays
Rowden Abbey – Entire Estate | Sleeps 22 | 11 Bedrooms | 7 Bathrooms | 30 Acres of Private Grounds
Setting the Scene
Hidden among rolling Herefordshire hills, Rowden Abbey is a grand Arts & Crafts country house made for slowing down. Once the home of notable local families, the Abbey now welcomes guests seeking stillness, space, and time together. With its oak-panelled halls, William Morris wallpapers, and softly glowing fires, it offers the warmth of a true English retreat.
Inside the Abbey
The Abbey sleeps up to 22 guests across 11 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms, each individually styled to honour the house’s late-Victorian character. Wide staircases, stained glass, and mellow woodwork create a sense of quiet grandeur.
Gather in the panelled dining room for candlelit suppers, or relax beside the wood burner in the entrance hall, where friends naturally gather after country walks. The main kitchen, with its Aga and electric bolt-on, was designed for shared feasts, while a second farmhouse kitchen in the North Wing provides extra cooking space for larger groups.
Every room feels part of the story — elegant yet lived-in, historic yet entirely comfortable.
Outside the Abbey
Beyond the doors stretch 30 acres of private parkland: sweeping lawns for croquet, meadows alive with birdsong, and woodland paths leading to a medieval lake where herons and kingfishers linger. In summer, the terrace overlooking the croquet lawn is the perfect spot for coffee or evening drinks as the sun dips behind the trees.
The Experience
This is a place to unplug and reconnect — to wander, talk, read, and simply be. A gentle walk up the lane leads past the mill and over the old railway bridge to Wicton Farm’s Milk Cart, an organic dairy hut serving fresh milk and coffee with views back across the valley to Rowden Abbey.
Rowden Abbey is that rare country house that feels both noble and nurturing — a home to share, to breathe, and to remember.
