Oaklands Glamping

It has taken us too long to discover award winning Oaklands, with its fabulous location and panoramic views over Mid Wales. This is a secluded and romantic adults only retreat location, with one unique and large treehouse and two luxury and very roomy safari tents. All retreats are spaced far apart from each other and have been positioned so that when you are staying in one retreat, you have complete privacy. 

It is one of those retreat locations which, until you visit Oaklands, you cannot truly appreciate how absolutely breath-taking this location is. 

Heartwood Treehouse at Oaklands Glamping, Welshpoool, Mid Wales (images 1-6 above)

South-facing Heartwood Treehouse overlooks the beautiful countryside of Mid Wales, a private and secluded treehouse retreat. High above everything else, this lovely treehouse has been beautifully built and designed to give it a totally spoiling feel for the lucky two adults who stay here.

Inside Heartwood – A Luxury Treehouse

Strictly for a maximum of two adults, enjoy the luxurious bedroom with kingsize bed, Hypnos mattress and Egyptian cotton bedding and wake up to hilltop panoramic views. There’s also a freestanding bath with views in the bedroom to make the most of. Wander through to a lovely bathroom with walk-in rain shower.

One of the great things about Heartwood treehouse is the huge fully kitted out kitchen, with beautiful Welsh slate worktops, and Siemens integrated appliances including a fridge, oven, hob, dishwasher and even a wine cooler and Nespresso coffee machine. It’s been designed to live in with the best cooking facilities, so that you’re able to enjoy longer stays at the treehouse and be able to cook properly without the normal cramped glamping feel.

The sitting room and kitchen are large and open plan with a south facing leather sofa facing the hilltop panoramic views and must have cosy log burner to relax and enjoy on colder winter evenings. There is a flat screen TV and good 4G, but no wifi.

Outside Heartwood Treehouse – a balcony, wood fired private hot tub, bbq & fire pit

On the treehouse balcony – can I mention the fabulous views again – you’ll find a ready warmed private wood fired hot tub on your arrival. Grab that bottle of champagne and watch the sunset and if you’re not looking too much of a prune by now, do a bit of stargazing onto an unspoilt sky deep in Mid Wales.

The treehouse balcony has a beautiful glass balustrade and gas BBQ. There’s also a cosy firepit area just down from the main balcony, with seats to relax, chill and enjoy the sunset. This adults only treehouse retreat really is the perfect destination for romantic getaways and a relaxing holiday.

Oaklands Glamping, Two Safari Tents, Bluebell and Foxglove (images 7-12 above

Bluebell and Foxglove safari tents are open from April to the end of October and owners Abigail and Shaphan have designed beautiful and roomy retreats for a maximum of two adults to enjoy and reconnect in the Mid Wales countryside. We’ve seen luxury glamping safari tents before, but never this size of safari tent for two people. Both Foxglove and Bluebell Safari tent are secluded with complete privacy and raised so that they have fabulous views across the Welsh countryside. The other massive selling point for these two stunning safari tents is that they are connected to mains electricity and enjoy a fully plumbed in bathroom, so you can enjoy a glamping site feel with total glamping luxury.

Inside the Foxglove and Bluebell Luxury Safari Tents

Owners Abigail Shaphan have designed each safari tent with exquisite attention to detail, providing a wonderful and spoiling experience with breathtaking views. Inside you’ll find an equipped kitchen, a roomy sitting room area with a large sofa to relax and a log burning stove to keep you warm and to cook from – with a hotplate that acts as a hob and an oven compartment.

Both retreats have lovely bathrooms with luxurious roll-top baths, perfect for a relaxing soak after a long day of exploring the beauty of Wales.

The bedroom has a King Size bed with Hypnos mattress, Egyptian cotton linen and an all seasons duvet. Hot water bottles and extra blankets are also provided for chillier nights.

Outside the Safari Tents, Foxglove and Blue Bell have their own Private Hot Tubs

Enjoy own private wood-fired hot tub, ready and warm for you on arrival, on the panoramic decking around each safari tent, perfect for a sunset moment and chilling under the stars.

Each retreat has an area just below the main safari tent, with a kadai BBQ and fire pit to roast a marshmallow or two.

Housekeeping at Oaklands Glamping Site

Unfortunately due to the local wildlife in the surrounding fields, Oaklands Glamping are unable to accommodate pets.

There is a minimum stay of 2 nights both mid week and over weekends.

Sustainability

The owners of Oaklands Glamping are passionate to be able to provide a retreat which offers both sustainable and luxurious living. They offer:

• An energy provider that supplies 100% of its electricity from community based renewable energy projects
• Refillable soap/hand cream
• A recycling station
• Treehouse and balconies on all properties built from locally sourced cedar and oak. 

Wildlife 

An array of birdlife can be frequently seen at Oaklands Glamping including Red kites, Buzzards, Woodpeckers, Nut hatches and Pheasants, along with a variety of other bird species. 

There are large areas on site that have been carefully created for Wilding by being cut down in the winter months ready for all the new Spring growth including bluebells and Foxgloves (hence the name of our two Safari tents). 

Foxglove Safari tent has the added bonus of a badger set nearby. 

The Local Area

Although Oaklands is in a totally private countryside location, it is also in the perfect position to explore Mid Wales and all that it offers, with a choice of formal gardens and historic homes to visit and dramatic coastlines and beaches just an hour away.

Local attractions within a 20 minute drive include:

• The 13th century redbrick Powis Castle 

• The Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway

• Glansevern Hall Gardens

• Aberdyfi – A small seaside village in Southern Snowdonia, 1 hour drive

• Barmouth Beach – Southern Snowdonia’s popular seaside resort, 1 hour drive

• Eryri (formerly Snowdonia) National Park – 1 hour drive

• Owners top recommendations are The Checkers Inn – a 5* restaurant and The Nag’s Head – which has just won the Best Pub in Wales, with a delicious menu.
